Welcome to my RLA (Reading/Language Arts) world!! I’ve begun my 9th year at Redwater Junior High and my 37th year in Education. I hold two Masters’ degrees: Curriculum, Instruction and Supervision; Administration. I have taught and been an administrator in several different countries as well as the states of Texas and Arkansas.
I believe in education for all students and strive everyday to assure everyone has the same opportunity to be a part of their class and achieve success in the lifelong skills of reading, writing and clear communication. Respect, responsibility and patience are all hallmarks of optimal learning settings and are foremost in this class coupled with sound instruction.
Course Description
English 8 is designed to provide a bridge from Junior High to the high school-level work students will encounter in the ninth grade. While you will review concepts learned in your earlier classes, you will also be introduced to and expected to learn specific concepts needed for coming years. The course covers a plethora of concepts: reading strategies and analysis; literature genre studies; vocabulary development; spelling review; writing for a variety of purposes; editing and proofreading skills; speaking and listening skills; research skills; visual and media representations; and principles of grammar and punctuation as they relate to writing.
